Equipment For You

When you ride you should wear long pants, real ones are called tights, breeches, or jophurs. You also should wear a helmet made for riding, a bike helmet is not good to ride with.  Most stables will not let you  ride unless you wear a helmet. Finally, you will need a slightly heeled shoe. For extra safety measures, so people use a padded vest to ride. This is especially useful if you are jumping. The picture is of a pair of riding boots.

Basic Tack

The most basic of tack (eqipment) is a saddle, saddle pad, and a bridle. The two most common types of riding are English and Western. These different displines have very different saddles and bridles. The picture is of an English saddle. The bridles are also different.

Additonal Tack

Some horses need more than the regular saddle, saddle pad, and bridle. Some examples of additional tack is: martingale, breastplate, bounce pad, riser pad, wither pad,  splint boots, bell boots, and  polo wraps. The picture is of a running martingale.

Cleaning Your Tack

Technically, you should clean your tack after every ride, but most people only clean it about once a week. If you don't clean your tack it can come brittle, dry, and develop cracks. If your tack has cracks than it can break, and that would not be good at all. The picture is of a tack sponge. To clean your tack you can use that or tack cleaning soap and water.
